8 amazing months
I know I say it every month, but where did the time go?!? Coltan is 8 months old. Oh my goodness. In the past month he has started feeding himself, babbling new sounds, squirming on his tummy and cracking himself up. He went swimming for the first time and loved it. He loves music! He bounces and giggles every time I turn on the music! He loves to stand and holds onto anything within reach. And perhaps the biggest development over the past month has been some massive teething! Coltan has sprouted FIVE teeth in the past month. It has been crazy. Poor guy had a rough time with the front top two but he sure looks cute now that they’re in. In fact, he was cutting a tooth when I took his picture above. When I tried to take away the little bottle he was chewing on, this is what I got…
So, I gave it back and this is what I got…
So I snapped a bunch of pictures until all of a sudden he got really tired. It was bed time…
so I scooped that sweet, tired boy up and it was time for a bath…
and then to bed. I really love you, Coltan. Even your mad face makes my heart swell. Your dad and I love you and are so proud of you. You bring joy to everything we do, and I am so grateful God has trusted me to love you for the rest of my life.
All Swim
Without question, some of my favorite childhood memories involve some serious time in the water. Whether it was trying to imitate the the swimmers in the 84 Olympics doing surface dives off the blocks in swim class, spending long afternoons at the Y pool, or my friend Todd and I making our moms stand outside in a driving rain storm while we boogie boarded at Kitty Hawk, water has always equaled fun.
So, with those fun memories (plus about a hundred more that I won’t bore you with) in mind, you can imagine that I was extremely excited yesterday when Amber and I took Coltan for his first swim. Armed with a serious topcoat of 50+ baby sunscreen, a UV shirt, his shaded float, and his floppy hat, Coltan took to the water, and it is safe to say he loved every second of it.
He giggled and splashed in his floaty and then swam with mom and dad.
Grandma Time!
Sunday was my mom’s birthday, and we were lucky enough to spend the day with her in Atlanta. My mom is the most sacrificial person I know. She had 3 kids within 5 years. Enough said, right? But even with that full plate, she raised us all with immense amounts of love and fun! My childhood memories are filled with songs, games, zoos, gardens, parties, and joy. I have always adored my mom. When I was little, she and I would sing “Me and My Shadow.” It was our song. I wanted to do everything with mom! I love that I have a great example of motherhood. My mom has taught me to be patient and accepting, to never go to bed angry and prioritize your family always. She has shown me creativity and excitement at its best! I just love my mom!!!! And it’s so great to see my son adore her, too. Happy Birthday to you, mom! I love you to pieces.
Here are some pictures from our great time with Grandma D! We miss you already!!
this face…
I have seen A LOT of this face in the past few days! Why? Because Grandma is here! Coltan love his grandma. And I love her, too. My mom has been in Atlanta since Friday. It’s been so great!!! We celebrated her birthday on Sunday. We are so sad to see her go today. But we took some great picutres, so stay tuned!
The Secrets of a Dog
I get the feeling that in the past few months while we were out for a walk with Coltan and Luna, and we would happen upon another family, say with a three year old and a dog, that there might have been some secrets being passed back and forth. My reason for this hypothesis has been Luna’s uncanny ability to sit under the highchair as soon as we mentioned trying to feed Coltan new solid foods, particularly our first attempt at Cheerios. That’s right, not when the first ‘o hit the ground, but as soon Amber said, “Hey, I think Coltan is ready to try some Cheerios.”
It was like an alarm went off alerting her to the fact that this is what all those other dogs with older children had prophesied about. Her land of milk and honey nut Cheerios materializing right before her eyes. Those same eyes looking at us with a puzzling face that then said, “You know Sam, I think he’s ready for lunch meat, let’s give it a try, what’d you say?”
