wrecked

Carlos, my boss and friend, is in Uganda.  He is with a group of Americans travelling around Uganda with Compassion International.  They are all blogging their experiences in hopes of inspiring us back here in the comfortable US to sponsor a child and change a life.  If you want to stop reading because I just said that…please don’t.

I’m like you.  The commercials with sad looking babies with flies on their faces always made me sad, but more so made me feel manipulated.  Guilt is not a good motivator.  But the vision that Carlos and the group has shared is.  And it has wrecked me.  This post by David Kuo has turned me inside out.  If you have a second to read it, please do.  David saw so much that day, but the image that has broken my heart is of a tiny little girl just left on the street.  How…how has this happened?

When I was pregnant, I was slapped by the notion that we can care for our baby so well…provide everything he needs and more.  But there are thousands of children who will never know their mother’s love…and their little tummies grumble with hunger.  So, instead of feeling guilty, we decided to take a step and sponsor a little girl named Charity. She lives in Kenya.  Hopefully, Coltan will grow up knowing about her and what blessing is.  Maybe even one day we can all meet Charity.

Maybe today we can all get past our thoughts that say…they need to help themselves, or how do I know my money is really being used for good.  It is.  Carlos can tell you that for sure.  And you know what? Why NOT use your life to help others regardless of the ifs, buts, whys, and when you get down to it, nonsense that gets in the way.

Thanks for reading.

Sponsor a child today at Compassion International.
